People say Shanghai has no beach. Jinshan City Beach proves them wrong. Locals call it "Shanghai's Hawaii," and it's the city's main real sandy beach, about an hour from downtown.

A dam separates this artificial bay, nearly 2 km² in size, from the murky waters of Hangzhou Bay. Inside, the water is clean, clear, and blue, and the sand is fine and golden. Entry is ticketed, which keeps crowds down. Even on weekends, there's plenty of space to spread out.
