Overview
China's first original immersive physical theatre, staged inside a retired cruise ship.
There are no lines in this show. Not one. The entire story is told through movement, music and the space around you, directed by Amit Lahav of Britain's Gecko theatre company and three years in the making. The stage is the Minghua, a real ship permanently docked at Shekou's Sea World, rebuilt across seven decks into 4,600 square metres of 1930s Paris.
You follow Marcel: poor, gentle, painfully shy, and in love with a colleague he believes he could win if he could just become someone impressive. Reality keeps beating him. Then he makes a trade, and his soul is the price. Part Faust, part Gogol's "The Overcoat", and uncomfortably familiar to anyone who has ever wondered what they'd give up to get ahead.
There are no assigned seats and no fixed stage. You move through the ship as the story unfolds around you, close enough to touch it. You're not watching Marcel's life. You're walking through it.
